Seasearch Devon
Photo gallery
The first dive weekend was out of Dartmouth and we dived two new sites off Start Point. The sunshine was lovely and despite the wind picking up on Sunday we had some really good visibility and interesting sightings. Below is the nationally scarce sponge Adreus fascicularis - sorry, no common name - which was at both Start Point sites in good numbers.
Featherstars were in abundance and in a lovely variety of colours. This spiny spider crab (bottom right) has one as the latest punk hair-do.
The creature in the bottom left picture is a purple heart urchin Spatangus purpureus which I have never seen before - larger than the fawn coloured sea potato and usually hidden in the gravel sediment.
Between us we also saw butterfish, several species of nudibranchs, conger eel and pink sea fans.
A great first Seasearch weekend.
