Seasearch Devon
Welcome
July 25th 2010
Seasearch is a project for recreational divers who want to do their bit for the marine environment by collecting information about the marine habitats, plants and animals that only divers see.
This website has information on what is happening in Devon, how divers can take part in events and provides some feedback on projects. You could also look at the main Seasearch website www.seasearch.org.uk if you want to know what is going on nationwide and find out more about Seasearch in general.
The Seasearch Coordinator for Devon is Sally Sharrock. Sally is a keen diver and underwater photographer and organises Seasearch dives, runs courses, collects survey forms and is happy to help with identifying species on your photographs. Contact details are on the contact page.
At this time of year we are out diving whenever we can so the website is only updated occasionally. Please email if you want more details about anything.
So far this year we have run an Observer course, a Surveyor course and a Marine ID course. There have also been Observer courses run at the University of Plymouth by the other local tutor Kat Brown.
Sally is also the diver rep on the Finding Sanctuary MCZ Devon group so if you have ideas or opinions about where conservation zones shoud go do let her know.
Seasearch in Devon is supported by:
Seasearch at the Bioblitz
We recently took part in the Bioblitz, organised by the Natural History Museum and the Marine Biological Association. We logged about 70 species on our afternoon dive off Mothecombe Beach tio add to their total species list for the 24 hours.
